Snow White comes to Macrobert this October

 

balletLORENT brings to the Macrobert Arts Centre their unique vision of the Grimm brothers’ Snow White this October.

The production promises to be an extraordinary narrative through dance, featuring blends of classical and modern genres with hints of Gothic themes, a fantastic score, a renowned costume illustrator, as well as a 12-member Young Cast of dancers recruited from the Stirling locale.

Tucked into the backstreets of Bridge of Allan, The Hideaway Cafe has certainly eluded many a-traveler, not in the least because of its not having a website or attention-grabbing street sign, or its relatively quiet social media profile.

Aptly, it is indeed hidden away. Just off Fountain Road, in a tiny alley immediately after the Strathcarron Vintage Charity Shop, the Hideaway Cafe can enjoy a peaceful and secret location amidst the busyness of a main road.

Henderson’s Bistro at the Albert Halls

About two weeks ago I was fortunate enough to have heard about one of my favorite crime-fiction writing duos – known collectively as Nicci French – doing an event and q&a at the Albert Halls, as part of the Bloody Scotland weekend.

Nicci Gerrard and Sean French were as mysterious yet down-to-earth as I had pictured they would be; hilariously morbid and definitely marching to a suspense-emitting drum of their own.

The event went by seamlessly and the brilliant donations of over 10,000 books that BookDonors have organised for the duration of the Bloody Scotland weekend was a huge hit. As the doors to every event were opened, the spectators saw each of the 300 red velvet audience chairs laden with a different hard-back copy of a contemporary or classic work of crime fiction – which served as a genius idea for an ice-breaker for people wanting to swap with their neighbour; or an impromptu treasure-hunt, with many people scouting up and down all the rows in search for that one gem they couldn’t find in the bookshop.
